Exhibition match between 1st and 2nd Nines of the Sacramento Base Ball Club, reported in the Daily Alta, 11 Dec 1859:

"BASE BALL.- The Base Ball Club of Sacramento have played a match game between the first and second nines of the club, which was won by the former, by ten runs."

Comment

The earliest report of baseball in California is a mention of the game being played in 1851. There may be an earlier report of the game among Mormon soldiers stationed in San Diego. The Base Ball Club of Sacramento was formed in 1859, played some of the earliest games in the state. Members of the club did include former Brooklyn Putnam E. N. Robinson.
